A downloadable game for Android

This is a prototype -- it's technically finished and winnable -- and it even has an Easter Egg (can you find it?) -- that being said it falls short of what I was aiming for and it still pretty rough around the edges.

Goal:
To win in Adventurous, you have to find the magical chalice and bring it back to the Yellow Castle.

Beware:
There is a dragon somewhere in the world, and in order to succeed, you will have to face it. -- You might be able to sneak by it -- or you might climb up it's scaly back and stab down on it's head with your enchanted sword. -- Just don't get hit by his fire balls or you'll go flying (you might even get knocked out of the level).

Controls:

  • Thumb sticks for turning and moving
  • Grips for climbing (ladders and the red grip stones)
  • Triggers for picking up or putting down objects

Inspiration:
The theme for this gamejam was "Loop" and I thought I would loop you back to 1980 in your VR headset to play my adaptation of the video game "Adventure", which was originally for the Atari VCS / 2600, and was written by Warren Robinett (GamePro ranked it as the 28th most important video game of all time in 2007, and its own Easter Egg was featured prominently in the book Ready Player One, and in the movie adaptation -- also its Easter Egg was highly controversial at the time).

In addition -- Adventure contains some LOOPing and confusing non-linear mazes -- once you have them memorized they're easy, but your first time in will overwhelm you. -- I tried to adapt those mazes and that feeling to VR (shown in the title shot). -- However, not all the features from Adventure made it (in fact, Adventure is a more complete game than this is and like... has sound and stuff! XD).

List of Features from Adventure that made it or didn't make it:

  • Black and Yellow Castle and their keys (no white castle)
  • The Bridge is now a hole in the wall that you can pick up and move to different walls if they are thin enough, it's basically a portable hole.
  • There is also a ladder that you can move around.
  • There are two maze rooms.
  • A magic sword for Dragon killing.
  • One Dragon (so that you can put your shiny new magic sword to use!)
  • No Dark Caves
  • No Magnet, No Bat

There's probably more but I forget right now.

Stuck? -- Here are some spoilers:

  • The yellow key and the portable hole is in the first outdoors room (right next to where you start).
  • The ladder is in the courtyard of the yellow castle, use the portable hole to get it. -- If you put the ladder vertically somewhere, you can climb it -- but if you lay the ladder flat, it will turn into a plank that you can use to span a distance. -- Sometimes the ladder drops funny, just pick it up and try again.
  • If you ever drop and item into a void and lose it, just go back to the screen where you first found it -- it will respawn there.
  • The sword is in the yellow castle (stick the yellow key into the gate to open it)
  • In the same outdoors room where you got the hole and yellow key, if you use the ladder to climb up high (you'll have to use it twice, once as a ladder and once as a plank -- or use the sword and some creative climbing to span the gap) there is a special entrance into the maze room. -- If you enter through here, you'll be on a direct path to get the black key.
  • In the hedge maze room you can use the hole in the wall or the ladder (or again, some leet grapling skills) to get past the wall (I added a way to get back, so you won't be soft-locked if you find yourself stuck on the other side) -- and that will get you access to the black castle -- again just stick the key in the gate. -- And don't forget your sword.
  • In the black castle, you can distract the dragon by throwing cubes in its line of sight (if it isn't already chasing you). -- Don't get hit by its projectiles or you'll drop what's in your hands and get knocked around really good (possibly out of the level). -- You can also climb the dragon (easiest from behind), and stab it in the back of the head to kill it.
  • From there just grab the chalice and head home!
